Working together to ensure public safety.
Inspection is a crucial tool in maintaining infrastructure and ensuring safety. It allows owners to follow the progression of deterioration and determine if a bridge requires repair, rehabilitation, or replacement. We perform routine, interim, damage, fracture critical, in-depth, and problem area inspections.
Keller Engineers’ Certified Bridge Safety Inspectors (CBSI) perform bridge safety inspections and prepare detailed reports for all types of motor vehicle, pedestrian, and railroad bridges, and dams. All inspections meet National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) requirements. Typical clients include the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), counties, local municipalities, railroads, trail organizations, and private owners.
Each of our experienced, bridge safety inspectors hold CBSI certifications and receive continuous specialized training to maintain their certification. The inspectors are knowledgeable in NBIS and PennDOT bridge inspection policies and requirements. They are supported by our professional engineers in performing load rating evaluations using PennDOT approved analysis programs/methods. Our inspectors understand PennDOT’s Critical and High Priority maintenance coding protocol and have experience with Critical Deficiency meetings and preparation of the associated Plan of Action. We guide the bridge owner through this process and routinely follow-up with the owner to monitor progress and keep PennDOT informed.
All crews are equipped with computers, photography equipment, and all field supplies necessary to perform inspections, analysis, and testing of all major bridge components. Additionally, we advise the owner of required improvements, provide a maintenance schedule, and assist in the compilation of annual budgets.
