PA Army National Guard / PA Department of General Services / Department of Military and Veterans Affairs
This project included the construction of new Readiness Center/Armory on 20 acres of Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs (DMVA) land.
The design contract had two phases. Phase 1 included a schematic design/engineering. Phase 2 – site design and construction documents – was awarded to Keller Engineers as part of a Design-Build Contract. The project included numerous design details for security and Anti-Terrorist/Force Protection measures. The project design evolved as construction documents were being finished through negotiations with the DMVA.
Project Uniqueness/Challenges: Rigorous Department of General Services procedures and review processes were required. The redesign of a major storm water conveyance swale was required due to the detection of an unmarked gas main.
We have teamed with Keller Engineers on several design-build projects for PennDOT. When selecting a designer, the more critical factors are trust and competence, more so than a low price. If your designer makes a mistake in quantities it can cost you a lot of money. We have stayed with Keller Engineers because we trust them to provide competent service at a competitive price. S.
