Project Details

This project included a 37,000 SF expansion to the existing Adler building. The expansion houses classrooms, a new gymnasium, and fitness center. The construction of six new tennis courts was also included in the project.

After a complete study of Spring Run to determine the location of the 100-year floodplain, stormwater for the project was managed with four Bio Retention areas placed in strategic locations around the perimeter of the building. Also included are two underground pipe detention systems, and a series of infiltration trenches. Managed stormwater is then released directly to Spring Run and the existing stormwater conveyance system.

Project Uniqueness/Challenges:

  • Relocation of all existing utilities, location of private utility service lines, and existing stormwater conveyance pipe provided design constraints.
  • The schedule of construction was dependent upon PSU Altoona’s schedule as the existing building continued operations through most of the construction.

For over 20 years I have had the privilege of working with Keller Engineers and their staff of surveyors, and civil and structural engineers on over $150 million worth of work. During these project relationships and partnering opportunities, my architectural teams have received nothing but premium professional services and courtesy towards my own staff, clients and prospective clients with stellar attention given to building and site details, client responsiveness and peer respect. I look forward to many more teaming opportunities and urge any other architectural firms, municipalities or clients who have not worked with Keller Engineers to do so. You will be pleasantly surprised! Richard L. Karcher, AIA, NCARB
