Mt. Union Borough Council, Huntingdon County
This project included removing failing and collapsed stone masonry retaining walls and construction of new retaining walls to support a two-block section of the southern lane of Pennsylvania Avenue. In their place, galvanized steel walls with reinforced concrete facing were designed and constructed. The walls, located between Franklin and Jefferson Streets, total more than 1,000’ long and have a maximum height of 10’.
To match the context of the Mount Union Historic District and the adjacent East Broad Top Railroad National Historic Landmark, the walls include concrete form liners, were stained to match the appearance of the original walls and display a black coated traffic barrier which aesthetically blends with the railroad and neighborhood setting.
For over 20 years I have had the privilege of working with Keller Engineers and their staff of surveyors, and civil and structural engineers on over $150 million worth of work. During these project relationships and partnering opportunities, my architectural teams have received nothing but premium professional services and courtesy towards my own staff, clients and prospective clients with stellar attention given to building and site details, client responsiveness and peer respect. I look forward to many more teaming opportunities and urge any other architectural firms, municipalities or clients who have not worked with Keller Engineers to do so. You will be pleasantly surprised! Richard L. Karcher, AIA, NCARB
