Project Details

This project is the replacement of the existing 54’ long three span encased steel I-beam Bridge that carries T-468 (Ross Hill Road) over Penns Creek in Gregg Township, Centre County. The bridge is located adjacent to the T-intersection of T-468 (Ross Hill Road) and SR 2012 (Penns Cave Road).   This project offered several design challenges that made the use of twin cell 26’-0” x 6’-0” box culverts the chosen alternative.

Project Uniqueness/Challenges:

  • Providing intersection turning radii on the structure (end segments of the culvert were splayed).
  • Limiting increase in roadway profile due to intersection and hydraulics (box culverts allowed for shallowest superstructure depth).
  • Minimize impacts to the bed in backs EV Wetlands. (Primary cell aligned with stream channel, secondary cell contained a 1’-6” weir that will help maintain existing wetlands).
  • Reducing construction duration (Minimize impacts to the Amish community impacted by the detour).

The final product included 250’ of roadway work on T-468 and 200’ of widening, profile adjustment and overlay on SR 2012.

Penn Cambria School District has collaborated the last 4 years with the Keller Engineer’s team to complete a multi-phased paving and drainage project on our HS campus. I have personally worked with Adam Long, Brian Smith and Shawn Ritchey throughout the entire project and they made Penn Cambria feel like we were their only client. The personal attention to our needs and specific details of this project were second to none. The communication aspect of the Keller Engineer Team was outstanding. We trust their process, their design and their commitment to a quality project that when completed, we are all very proud of. Bill Marshall, Superintendent Penn Cambria School District
