Old Mill Bridge

Owner: Saltillo Borough Project Description:

This project involved the replacement of the existing bridge carrying Old Mill Road over North Spring Creek in Saltillo Borough, Huntingdon County.  The bridge is located along Old Mill Road approximately 285 feet from the intersection with SR 655 (Main Street).

The improvements consisted of replacing the existing structurally deficient single lane structure with a new single lane P/S Concrete Spread Box Beam structure. The structure is located on the existing horizontal roadway alignment with minor profile adjustments. The approach roadway work included lane widening adjacent to the historic Hudson Grist Mill to improve safety and intersection improvements at SR 0655 to improve sight distance.  The intersection is used by school buses and the improved configuration will increase safety by providing a reduced roadway grade and allow for bus turning movements.

The project was constructed using a temporary detour to reroute traffic around the proposed construction site.  Minor drainage work, including new inlets, was included in the project to better control drainage adjacent to the mill property.
